Competition Closed

Budgie Power Ad Comp 2014 is a competition to create a video advertisement of no longer than 30 seconds for Budgie Power. While the quality of the ad is important, the winner will be the entrant who attracts the most attention through YouTube “likes” and people signing up to connect their electricity with Budgie. While attention is interesting from regions other than Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth and Palmerston North these are the regions where consumers can switch to enjoy Budgie’s cheaper power prices. Encouraging people to switch to Budgie Power is the object of the advertisement.

Entry is open to NZ residents and citizens. Employees of Budgie or any company associated with Budgie are not eligible to enter.

1st Prize

The Ad that attracts the most attention (as measured by likes on Budgies YouTube page and customers who signup with Budgie Power and put your team name in the notes) by the 31st of May 2014 will win $10,000 cash.

2nd Prize

Second place as measured above will win $2,000 cash.

3rd Prize

Third place as measured above will win $1,000 cash.

Budgie's Favourite

Budgie's favourite ad as judged by Budgie will win $1,000 cash.

We have summarised the key rules and entry requirements below but suggest you click here to see our full terms of use.

Ads must be 30 seconds or less.

They should attract attention to Budgie and encourage residents in Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth and Palmerston North to switch to Budgie for their power supply.

Ads may not include defamatory content, offensive language, sexual content, discrimination against any individual or group.

Do not include reference to any other brand, power or otherwise.

Any claims that you make, need to either be 100% true (and provable) or completely ridiculous e.g. You can say "Budgie can help you travel at the speed of light". Because that's completely mental.

Avoid any price comparisons as they need a bunch of legal stuff, you probably won't understand.

Your ad will be loaded on Budgies YouTube page, you must not load the video elsewhere.

We reserve the right to reject any ad in our sole discretion. Related to this, we should make it clear that we are the only people who can approve ads.

Do not 'game' likes on YouTube. We have measures in place to catch this, and any sniff of it will result in instant disqualification.

To be eligible to win:

You must agree to and accept the Terms and Conditions of Entry by signing the Entry Form and uploading as a PDF.

You must upload PDF files of all Release Forms.

You must upload a video. We will accept video that is a .m4v, .mp4 or .mov file. File size should be between 1mb - 50mb, anything over 100mb is not permitted. Click here to see specifications.

Upload your entry at www.budgie.co.nz/adcomp by the 15th of May 2014.

You may not promote your Ad (e.g. through Facebook) until you have received acceptance of your content, and provided the required documentation.

The Ad that attracts the most attention (as measured by likes on YouTube and customer signups) by the 31st of May 2014 will win a 1st Prize of $10,000. 2nd place will win $2,000, 3rd Place $1,000

Points will be given as follows:

1 point for every ‘like’ on your YouTube video – NOTE that facebook likes etc. do not count, so point your fans to your video on Budgie Ad Comp's YouTube channel!

5 points for every customer that signs up and puts your team name in the online application notes.

Our determination of the winner is final and binding, and there is no right of appeal or review.

There will also be a $1,000 prize for Budgie's favourite.

Go to www.budgie.co.nz and discover all you can about him.

Be funny and light-hearted.

Shoot video landscape.

It does not have to be the full 30 seconds – in fact shorter is probably better.

Tell people why they should join!

By entering, you, the Entrant, acknowledge and agree that if your Ad is accepted, Budgie Power own all the copyright and other intellectual property rights in the ad.

You need to get signed release forms for:

Any individual who appears in your Ad (e.g. actors, extras, etc.);

Any individual who works on the Ad (e.g., cinematographers, editors, costume designers, etc.);

Any visual images that appear in your Ad (e.g. paintings, posters, photographs, etc.);

Any audio-visual works that appear in your Ad (e.g., pre-existing films, videos, television programs, etc.);

Any music compositions or sound recordings that appear in your Ad.

ALL contributors must sign a release form. Basically get a signature from any one who works on your ad in any capacity.

Please complete this as part of the release form. This should detail each piece of music used in your Ad (title of composition, copyright owner, duration used). The information you will need to have on hand is a clear knowledge of who owns the copyright in each piece of music used, proof you have the permission to use each piece of music, and the duration of each piece of music used.

We strongly suggest that you use music written and recorded by one of your team, or that you don’t use music at all. If you choose to use pre-existing copyrighted music compositions and/or sound recordings in your Ad (such as existing music by a famous band) you will need permission in the form of a license agreement to do so.
